Exclusive Agents vs. Independent Agents

Most insurance companies have at least one office wherever they are able to sell insurance with an agent available to sell and create policies. These agents sell a variety of products from the one insurance company and will know the details about the various products.

Independent agents sell products from multiple insurance companies and can often find the best rate since they are not locked into one brand. However, you will not find as many independent agents for individual insurance policies; they work more with commercial insurance. In fact, independent agents sell eighty percent of the policies for commercial, but very little for personal insurance.

You can also compare rates and get quotes online and even purchase your insurance over the internet; however, some people like to deal with their agent in person. It is important that you know where an agent is located even if you buy the policy online.
